Pillars of TFA - NJ Onboarding
Your journey to the classroom starts NOW. We believe that your actions throughout Onboarding ultimately reflect the type of professional you will become in the classroom. We hold high expectations for all of you because this work is ultimately about our students, and they deserve the best teachers possible.
It is important for you to feel connected to the region, community, and each other. This work cannot be done alone. It is only through the collective efforts of our schools, partners, and families that we can see the transformational change that we hope to accomplish for our students.
It’s imperative that we reflect on our own identity and experiences, specifically with a lens on race and class, be aware of the varying degrees of privilege that we have, and acknowledge the inequities that our students face every day. We are all coming into this work with different experiences – some of us may be able to relate to our students more than others. However, as leaders in this movement, we must all remain outraged by these injustices of our current education system. As teachers in the classroom, you must embrace your students and their individual stories, and foster them to develop their socio-political consciousness.
